Bad Sandy

Here are some pictures finally of me hosting the Grease-themed Mr. USU, an all male "beauty contest" which is kind of a big deal during Homecoming week. I, however, did not realize it was such a big deal until I was dressed as Sandra Dee in front of a sold-out crowd. It was a lot of fun, but I was relieved when it was over! *photographs by Laurbie, inc.

Food & Folklore help

Hey family--for my Food & Folklore class this semester I need stories. That is our assignment. Incidentally, here are two questions and if anyone has story answers I would love to hear them.

What stories does our family have about our favorite things we eat for dinner or whatever?
Do you know any stories about cannibalism? Personal, ones you've heard or read in news, or anything..doesn't even have to be "true".

Please respond asap as if you have an answer I want to use for class I have to have my story typed up by Monday night's class.

Back in Utah!

It feels so crazy to be back! I am loving my new place it's so weird only having one roommate (Cecily) but I love it. We are working on getting our place together and still have a little way to go so I 'll post updated pictures when it's finished. I start school tomorrow and work, I am so excited / nervous for both! My first class is at 8:30 which hopefully won't be too bad but we'll see..

Sweet Dreams

As most of you know, I've diagnosed myself as suffering from night terrors. Last night I had a particularly dramatic one that I thought I would share with you. I had a dream that a little girl was running and going to jump out a window (a la Hudsucker Proxy except that it was an open window). I, being the chivalrous man I am, decided to make a leap for the girl and keep her from going out the window. Apparently, as all this was going on in my head the rest of me decided to make a real life leap toward my own window (which is about 2-3 feet from my bed). Whilst I did not go out the window myself I did crash rather hard into the wall/radiator with my knee. Thankfully, my knee escaped this ordeal relatively unscathed, but I'm afraid I can't say the same about our poor radiator.

Consequently, if anyone has some tips on fixing radiators on the cheap I'm all ears.

Hey Family it's your favorite nomad!

Well i got shipped down to Joplin Mo again and I had a chance to ride down in this little beauty. It was a little cramped in there but a 3.5 hour flight beats the pants off a ten hour drive! For most of the flight we were going about 135mph. We lost time cuz Obama was campaigning in Moline IL so they setup a huge no fly zone. It cost us 45 min going to around.

It was a smooth flight until the very end, the thermal updrafts in Joplin were throwing this little plane around when we came in for a landing! The hardest part was sittting perfectly still for the duration and trying to keep me feet off the pedals for the ailerons!

Me and the boys took in the Boone Coutny Fairs truck and tractor pull! I think I was more excited than they were.

It was pretty sweet these diesels were screaming down the track shooting exhauts and flames like forty feet into the air! It was super loud so we were all wearing earplugs.

I think Jack's earplugs worked a little too well cuz he slept for a good portion of the event even though the stands were rattling from the sound of those machines.

That's all for now hope everyone is happy and healthy!

Jury Duty

Soo I got called for jury duty, not summoned, but I had to fill out that form and return it. What does this mean for me and my anonymity from the government? I thought there was some conspiracy-ish reason to avoid jury duty, like now I'm going to get audited one day or something. Can anyone verify this?

I hope I do get summoned because they give you like 20 bucks the first day and $50 every day after...not bad, especially if it's a murder mystery about some guy who offed his wife for reasons unknown. Well, no that would be too gross; I only like to see that on Law & Order...jury duty is starting to give me the creeps.
