Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin

"Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, the oldest living apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died last night, December 2, 2008, age 91.

Elder Wirthlin had gone to bed at his Salt Lake City home, and died peacefully at about 11:30 pm of causes incident to age. His oldest daughter, Jane Wirthlin Parker, was present. A member of the family had been staying and caring for Elder Wirthlin, whose wife, Elisa Young Rogers Wirthlin, died in 2006.

He had continued to work at his office right up until the Thanksgiving holiday."

I'm sure you Utah people already heard this was in an e-mail I got from LDS Living today and I thought I would post it here. I had the oppurtunity to hear him speak in person while I was at Ricks and have always enjoyed his talks at General Conference.

Galena Trip Part A

Downtown Galena, many shops and resturants.

Many old buildings in Galena. We ate lunch in a hotel where Abraham Lincoln, Ulysess S. Grant, and Steven Douglas has all stayed at various times.

This was the original fire house.

This is the largest home in Galena. It is open to the public, but still privately owned.

Our English Cottage had a hot tube, fire place, small kitchen, boze sound system, etc. It was very nice.

The bed was beautiful, but very hard!

We visited Eagle Point Park. It was cold and windy, so while I took pictures, mom waited in the car. This is looking up at the point from where we looked down at the lock and dam.

We visited the lock and dam at Dubuque

We watched a tow boat go through the lock. This is looking down from Eagle Point Park.

The tow was so long that they had to take it through in two sections and put them back together after they got throught the lock.

This ice was on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi

The eagles were across the river on the Wisconsin side. That's to Google Maps and my cell phone we found the way to the park.

We saw a total of 6 or 7 eagles. They were too cool.

While leaving Dubuque, we caught up with the tow boat that we saw going through the lock.

The ride home was beautiful too!

I think this is more fitting for the Christmas season. The Heat Miser won't leave Logan!
